French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde will become the first woman to run the International Monetary Fund.
Lagarde replaces Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who was arrested last month in New York on sexual assault charges.
The IMF, established in 1947 to help nations coordinate economic policy, is playing a key role in the European efforts to steer Greece away from financial collapse.
