CNN Breaking News

Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been released on his own recognizance and freed from house arrest after credibility issues surfaced with the woman who alleged sexual assault.

Attorneys for the Strauss-Kahn had asked that he be released after investigators unearthed new details surrounding the alleged victim that appear so grievous that DNA evidence of sexual contact recovered from his hotel suite may not be enough to overcome them.

Strauss-Kahn has maintained his innocence throughout the case which has drawn international attention and prompted the French financier to step down from his post atop of the International Monetary Fund.

He has been living under house arrest in a luxury townhouse in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood.
