CNN Breaking News

For the second time in six years, the St. Louis Cardinals are headed to the World Series. Fueled by strong hitting, the Cards finished off the Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 in Game 6 of the NLCS. With the victory, St. Louis set up a showdown with the Texas Rangers.

The Cardinals wasted little time jumping on the Brewers, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by third baseman David Freese's three-run blast. In the third, the Cards put up four more runs, thanks to an Albert Pujols homer and RBIs from Nick Punto and Allen Craig.

In the World Series, the Cardinals will take on the Rangers, who eliminated the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS on Saturday. The two teams will meet in the first game of the World Series on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Cardinals are second all-time with 10 World Series titles, trailing only the New York Yankees' 27. St. Louis won its most recent championship in 2006 and has appeared in the Series a total of 18 times.
