CNN Breaking News

A new CNN poll shows that Newt Gingrich is falling back into a tie with Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination.

Most polls this month showed Gingrich, the former House speaker, surging past Romney to the top of the field, with numbers in the 30s. But Monday's CNN/ORC International poll shows the two now tied at 28% and Texas Rep. Ron Paul in third with 14%.

Romney's appeal to GOP voters appears to be based mostly on his personal qualities, many of which -- including likeability and trustworthiness -- are problems for Gingrich. But the poll suggests that Gingrich has erased Romney's lead in two major items: who is likely to be the party's nominee and who has the best chance of beating President Barack Obama.

The poll, conducted between Friday and Sunday, also shows that only a third of Republicans say they’ve decided who to vote for and that 56% say they could still change their mind.
