Between 50 and 70 people are feared missing after a cruise ship ran aground off the coast of Italy, prompting a mass evacuation overnight, the Italian coast guard said Saturday.
Authorities have confirmed three people are dead and 14 injured.
The Costa Concordia, owned by Genoa-based Costa Cruises, ran aground Friday night on a sand bank off the island Giglio, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported.
The coast guard said three helicopters were used to rescue some passengers from the ship, which pictures show listing heavily to one side.
Most of those on board were Italian, as well as some French and German citizens.
