Sen. John McCain endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president at a rally Wednesday in New Hampshire.

"I am really here for one reason and one reason only," said McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, "and that is that we make Mitt Romney the next president of the United States of America and New Hampshire is the state that will catapult him on to victory in a very short period of time."

Romney won Tuesday night’s Iowa caucuses by eight votes over Rick Santorum.

With 47% support, Romney also was the top candidate Tuesday night in a CNN/ORC International flash poll of New Hampshire Republicans who followed the Iowa results.
