Six U.S. Marines were killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan's Helmand province late Thursday, a U.S. military official confirmed Friday.
The helicopter was a CH-53, the official said.
The Marines were deployed as part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force.
Meanwhile, a gun attack by an Afghan soldier claimed the lives of four French service members in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said.
