Americans will continue to receive a bigger paycheck through the rest of the year, after the House and Senate voted today to extend a payroll tax cut.

President Obama has promised to sign the legislation as soon as it reaches his desk.

The deal also extends unemployment benefits and avoids a cut in Medicare fees for doctors for the remainder of 2012. All three measures were set to expire at the end of February.

The roughly $100 billion payroll tax cut, a key part of Obama's economic recovery plan, means a break worth about $83 a month for someone making $50,000 a year.
