CNN Breaking News

CNN projects Mitt Romney will win the popular vote in the Michigan primary, but the delegate count is still too close to call, based on exit polls.

Rick Santorum is battling Romney for a share of the 30 delegates in the state, which awards them proportionately.

Romney was born in Detroit and his father was a governor of Michigan, and a victory there was seen as critical.

Earlier in the evening, CNN projected Romney would also win the Arizona primary and its 29 delegates.
