CNN Breaking News

Republican Gov. Scott Walker will narrowly retain his seat in Wisconsin's recall election, CNN projects.

Walker all but did away with collective bargaining rights for public employees in 2011, angering labor unions and spurring the recall effort.

Democratic supporters of the recall effort and Republican groups helping Walker hold on to his seat spent an estimated $70 million-$80 million in the state's first recall election. Walker raised 7½ times that of his Democratic challenger, Tom Barrett.
