The U.S. House, by a 241 to 180 vote, approved a $50 billion aid package for states affected by Superstorm Sandy.
Votes on the large Sandy aid legislation came two weeks after the House approved a $9.7 billion package paying for flood insurance claims, delayed by fiscal cliff bickering and consternation over federal spending.
The House measures came close to equaling the $60.4 billion package the Senate passed late last year. But since this is a new Congress, the Senate will either have to take up the House package or restart with a new bill.
