A new CNN/ORC International Poll finds more Americans support legal same-sex marriage and say they have a family member or close friend who is gay or lesbian.
According to the national survey, 57% of those polled say they have a family member or close friend who is gay or lesbian, up 12 points from 2007. The number of Americans who support same-sex marriage has risen from 40% in 2007 to 53%.
The survey results come a day before the Supreme Court begins hearing high-profile cases on same-sex marriage.
