President Barack Obama tells CNN "New Day" anchor Chris Cuomo in an exclusive interview that he understands that the capabilities of the NSA are "scary" to many Americans and that safeguards must keep pace with the technology that allows the agency to monitor e-mail traffic.

In the interview airing on CNN today, the president also says that the looming threat of a government shutdown in the fall is Republicans' "last gasp" to try to get rid of Obamacare.
