CNN Breaking News

Diana Nyad, 64, is about 2 miles shy of finishing her swim from Cuba to Florida, a goal she's pursued for 35 years.

Nyad, 64, began her fifth attempt at the 103-mile journey in Havana on Saturday morning. She may reach Key West between 2 and 4 p.m. ET.

She is swimming without a protective cage or flippers. In 1997, Australian Susie Maroney completed the swim from within a shark cage. She was 22 at the time.

Nyad has said this is her final attempt but wants to prove "it's never too late to chase your dream."
