CNN Breaking News

After a two-year ordeal, Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer, two American hikers jailed in Iran, have been released from Tehran’s Evin prison, an official with the U.S. State Department confirms.

Fattal, Bauer and a third hiker, Sarah Shourd, were seized on July 31, 2009, after apparently straying across an unmarked border between Iraq and Iran. Iranian authorities arrested them, claiming they were spies and had entered the country illegally. Shourd was release last year for medical reasons.

Earlier this week, the Iranian Judiciary announced that they could be released on $500,000 bail, and it is unclear whether that amount has been paid.
