CNN Breaking News

U.S. President Barack Obama told members of the United Nations on Wednesday that the United States seeks "a future where Palestinians live in a sovereign state of their own, with no limit to what they can achieve."

Obama also noted, however, that "America's commitment to Israel's security is unshakeable, and our friendship with Israel is deep and enduring."

Obama's remarks are particularly significant this year as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas plans to ask the United Nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state, a move that puts the Obama administration in a tight spot diplomatically, particularly with Israel and Jewish supporters at home.
